Step Into the River

Lu and Wei, two young girls in a village on a river in rural China, share a special bond with the water where some families once drowned newborn daughters in order to have sons. Together they find a magical strength to overcome the traumas of the past. The hand-drawn animated short explores the consequences of China's one-child policy through the eyes of children.
