Jan Švankmajer

Jan Švankmajer is a Czech filmmaker and visual artist associated with the Czechoslovak Surrealist Group. He studied stage design and puppetry in Prague and began experimenting with film at the Laterna magika theatre before making his first film in 1964. His work spans animation, live action, visual art and writing.
