Emma De Swaef

Emma De Swaef is a Belgian filmmaker, puppet maker and textile artist based in Antwerp. She studied documentary filmmaking at Sint-Lukas in Brussels and developed her work with wool, felt and other textiles in her stop-motion graduation film Soft Plants. She directs films with Marc James Roels, including This Magnificent Cake! (2018) and the opening chapter of the Netflix anthology The House (2022). Her practice also includes commercials, puppet design and stop-motion workshops, and she took part in JAPIC’s artist residency in Tokyo in 2013.
