It takes place in July in San Vito Lo Capo, on the north-western coast of Sicily, with screenings by the sea alongside panels, book presentations, training and workshops for children. Founded in 2009, it is promoted by the Municipality of San Vito Lo Capo, Demetra Produzioni and the cultural association Cantiere 7; Antonio Bellia is its artistic director. The four competitive sections cover documentaries, fiction features, shorts and animated shorts. Amnesty International Italia and Greenpeace Italia each present an award, for human rights and for the environment, and the Archivio Audiovisivo del Movimento Operaio e Democratico (AAMOD) gives a documentary the use of footage from its archive. The festival is a member of the Green Film Network and, with ARPA Sicilia, runs a film and environmental education project in Sicilian secondary schools.
