Its organiser, the non-profit Moving Image Forum, describes it as the only film festival in Korea dedicated exclusively to experimental film, and the festival's regulations call it one of the few platforms in Asia that keep presenting work by artists who use celluloid film. It was founded in 2004. The programme combines the EX-Now international and Korean competitions with curated EX-Choice sections, EX-Retro retrospectives, Indi-Visual spotlights on working artists, an Asia Forum that dates from 2009, and Audio Visual Performance, added in 2021.
