Organised by the Fondazione Cineteca di Bologna, the festival dates back to 1994. Its programme combines the national competitions with Visioni Animate, Visioni Doc, environmental and water-themed sections, and Visioni Sarde, for films by Sardinian filmmakers or set in Sardinia. Fare cinema a Bologna e in Emilia-Romagna provides a separate focus on filmmaking in the region. Screenings sit alongside filmmaker encounters, masterclasses and previews of debut and second features.
