Its competitions cover international and Swiss work, animated documentary and experimental cinema, alongside Caramel and Pistachio for young children, six school programmes and Convergences for young patients at Geneva University Hospitals. Children and students decide several prizes by voting after screenings. The festival is run by the Animatou association, founded in 2006 under the name Cinématou. Its selection committee views around a thousand shorts and chooses a little over a hundred each year. Special programmes include feature films, retrospectives, carte blanche screenings, workshops and masterclasses. Children from day-care centres, pupils and students make up about half the festival audience.
