Films selected through an international call and direct invitations compete in four categories: Grandtoon for short animated films, Studentoon for student films, Supertune for animated music videos and Planktoon for films for children. Comics compete as book editions, magazines and fanzines. The festival was founded in 2010 in Bol on the island of Brač and moved to Šibenik after two years. Its Planktoon workshop introduces children to animation, and the year-round Animated Šibenik platform adds exhibitions, workshops, VJ and 3D mapping shows in the city.
