The festival dates back to 2006 and is organized by the Animest Association. It presents animated shorts, features, student films, documentaries, music videos and virtual-reality work. Its Romanian competition focuses on local productions and co-productions, while Minimest selects films for children aged four to fourteen. The programme also includes retrospectives, animation workshops and professional masterclasses. Related initiatives include the Animation Incubator for high-school students, the Pitch, Please! and Toon Scripts pitching programmes, and Sisterhood of Young Animation Auteurs, which supports women working in animation.
