It started in 2019 within the CIAK Interreg programme. Its stated aims are to preserve and develop the cultural heritage of animated film, encourage new work and international co-production, and open a dialogue between professionals, filmmakers and audiences. The competition has two categories, short films and student films, for works of 2 to 24 minutes made within the previous two years in which animation makes up more than half of the film. An international jury gives awards for the best short and the best student film, and the audience votes in both categories. The festival runs in hybrid form, with screenings at the Ionian Academy in Corfu and online for registered users.
