The festival dates back to 1971 and its founder, Claudio Gubitosi. Ente Autonomo Giffoni Experience organises the event, which presents international fiction, animation and documentaries for young audiences, alongside films about childhood for adults. Young juries award the Gryphon Awards; parents and other filmgoers judge dedicated short-film and documentary competitions. Premieres, meetings with filmmakers and guests, workshops and cultural activities complement the screenings.
