FlickerUp provides a separate competition for Australian school students and filmmakers aged 18 and under. The festival dates back to a local event at Balmain High School in 1991, and its touring programme dates from 1995. The 36th edition runs from 22–31 January 2027 at Bondi Pavilion, followed by a tour to more than 40 Australian capital cities and regional centres.
