The national Czech Horizon competition presents Czech short and feature films, student work, series, music videos and commissioned work. The winner of the international Best Short Film award qualifies for the Academy Awards, and Czech Horizon winners can be nominated for the European Animation Awards (Emile Awards). The festival traces its history to AniFest, held in Třeboň from 2002. Anifilm has been organised since 2010 by the Citizens’ Association for the Support of Animated Film (OSPAF); after AniFest ended in 2013, the two teams merged, and since 2020 the festival has taken place in Liberec. Its industry programme includes the Czech Horizon Grant pitching forum, the CEE Animation Market and the Game Pitch Arena.
