Its competitions cover international and Swiss work, animated documentary and experimental cinema, alongside Caramel and Pistachio for young children, six school programmes and Convergences for young patients at Geneva University Hospitals. Children and students decide several prizes by voting after screenings. The festival is run by the Animatou association, founded in 2006 under the name Cinématou. Its selection committee views around a thousand shorts and chooses a little over a hundred each year. Young viewers vote for Caramel and the Satigny Pistachio award (CHF 500 each). Convergences and each of the six school competition awards carry CHF 200 and are decided by their young audiences. Jury awards go to the directors; Swiss competition films may also appear in other competitions.","2026 participation rules: competitive sections accept animated shorts released in 2025 or 2026, with an exception for films selected previously and withdrawn because of premiere exclusivity. Films are submitted through Short Film Depot; programming enquiries and out-of-competition features go to prog@animatou.com. International, Doc’Anim and Labo are mutually exclusive, and each director can have only one film in each competition. Swiss competition eligibility requires Swiss nationality, or professional activity and residence in Switzerland for at least three years. Screening files are DCP or ProRes, with H264 accepted if no better version exists. Films with dialogue or text outside French need a separate subtitle file; an English dialogue list with timecodes is accepted when French or English subtitles are unavailable. Competitive screenings carry no screening fee. Participation permits promotional excerpts of up to 10% of a film. Inclusion in the association’s non-public educational video library requires the rights holder’s consent. Out-of-competition films have no production-year restriction; screening fees are negotiated and French subtitles are required when applicable.","https://animatou.com/",[68,72,75,79,82,85,88,92,95
"Email","info@animatou.com","General enquiries
"prog@animatou.com","Programming and film submissions
"Phone","+41 22 734 11 84","Festival office
"Address","Rue des Grottes 11, 1201 Geneva, Switzerland
"prod@animatou.com","Video library and educational film rights
"billetterie@animatou.com","Professional accreditation and ticketing
"Website","https://vimeo.com/animatou","Official Vimeo
"https://www.instagram.com/festival_animatou/","Official Instagram
"https://www.facebook.com/Animatou","Official Facebook",1792418019]
