It is organised by Inside Out, a Toronto not-for-profit registered charity, and dates back to 1991, when the organisation held its first film and video festival. Over ten days the festival screens more than 100 films and hosts artist talks, panel discussions and parties at TIFF Lightbox. The competitive programme has four juried awards — Best First Feature, Emerging Canadian Artist, Best Canadian Feature and Best Canadian Short — and three Audience Awards with cash prizes for best short, narrative feature and documentary. During the festival Inside Out also holds the International Finance Forum for feature film projects seeking financing, and it runs screenings and filmmaker initiatives throughout the year.
