Inside Out Toronto 2SLGBTQ+ Film Festival presents narrative, documentary, experimental and animated films, features and shorts by and about 2SLGBTQ+ people from Canada and around the world. It is organised by Inside Out, a Toronto not-for-profit registered charity, and dates back to 1991, when the organisation held its first film and video festival. Over ten days the festival screens more than 100 films and hosts artist talks, panel discussions and parties at TIFF Lightbox.

The competitive programme has four juried awards — Best First Feature, Emerging Canadian Artist, Best Canadian Feature and Best Canadian Short — and three Audience Awards with cash prizes for best short, narrative feature and documentary. During the festival Inside Out also holds the International Finance Forum for feature film projects seeking financing, and it runs screenings and filmmaker initiatives throughout the year. The 2027 edition takes place 20–30 May 2027.

Festival rules

The festival seeks films inclusive of and of interest to 2SLGBTQ+ communities: narrative, documentary, experimental and animated films, both feature-length and short. Films must have been completed no more than 18 months before the festival; films completed after the previous year's festival are given preference. Works in progress and rough cuts are accepted if a completed exhibition copy is available for final approval by the set date. All submissions are made through FilmFreeway, one entry form per film; submissions by email are not accepted. A submission fee applies; filmmakers who need help with fees can contact the programming team. Only secure online screeners are accepted for preview. Selected films must have English captions or subtitles. Screening formats are DCP and QuickTime. The festival may use excerpts of up to 3 minutes and stills for promotion. Filmmakers must disclose significant use of AI in the submission form. Films in which generative AI replaces human creative authorship, performance or production are not eligible for the official selection.
