About

Eesti Rahvaluule Arhiiv, the Estonian Folklore Archives, is a central archive and research centre for folklore in Estonia. Established in Tartu in 1927, it brought existing folklore collections together under its first director, Oskar Loorits. Its holdings include manuscripts, photographs, sound recordings and films, with material collected by professional folklorists and a network of correspondents. The collections document Estonian traditions as well as those of other Finno-Ugric peoples and communities in Estonia and neighbouring regions. The archive also conducts research, develops digital access to its holdings and publishes scholarly folklore collections and recordings.
