About

The Istituto Statale d'Arte di Urbino, known as the Scuola del Libro, is a state art school in Urbino, Italy. It was founded in 1923 as an institute for book decoration and illustration, from the transformation of the city's Istituto di Belle Arti active since 1864, and for decades worked from the Ducal Palace, becoming an international reference for printmaking techniques. In 1951 it opened a section of animated drawing, later its Cinema of Animation section, which has trained many of Italy's illustrators and animators; other sections teach engraving, graphics, photography, typography, ceramics, bookbinding and book restoration. Today the school operates as the Liceo Artistico "Scuola del Libro".
