About
Armenfilm, known in Armenian as Hayfilm (Russian: Арменфильм), is a film studio in Yerevan, Armenia. It was founded on 16 April 1923 as a production unit of the Soviet state cinema organization, was later renamed Armenkino and then Yerevan Film Studio, and took the name Armenfilm in 1957; since 1966 it has borne the name of director Hamo Beknazarian, whose silent films Namus and Zare were among its first productions. Animation production began at the studio in 1967, with Robert Sahakyants as its best-known animator. In 2005 the state sold the studio to Armenia Studios, part of the CS Media City holding, and it was renamed CS Film Studios; after the new owners failed to produce the required feature films, the government reclaimed it in 2015. In 2026 control of the studio passed to the Ministry of Culture, with plans to develop it into the Hayfilm Film Production City.
